BASQUE COUNTRY TRAINING CAMP 2014/15
On the 3rd of april we departed on a 9 day trip to escape the confines of riding in Manchester in search of some sun. The 16h drive to the French Basque country was rewarded with 6 days of beautiful weather and some amazing scenery. We spent a total of over 25h in the saddle getting some quality training in and some great tan lines to boot.
Weekly summary : Day 1 (strava) 30 miles - 1965ft Easy ride out to the coast recovering from the long over night drive from Manchester. Day 2 (strava) 62 miles - 5587ft First ride into the Basque country hills and mountains. Day 3 (strava) 57 miles - 6194ft First day of riding with proper race training in mind, with threshold efforts up the climbs and moderate intensity on the flats. Day 4 (strava) 107 miles - 7785ft Century ride going far into the Basque country provided us with some stunning views and some top quality riding. Day 5 (strava) 20.8 miles - 1755ft Recovery ride in the morning and in the afternoon we drove to the beautiful city of San Sebastian for a bit of sightseeing followed by Tapas. Day 6 (strava) 62.3 miles -2890ft The only flat day of the training camp heading north toward Bayonne. The main purpose of this was to practice lead outs, with the final effort breaking the 60kmph barrier! Day 7 (strava) 67.5 miles - 5208ft Last day of training camp, riding out to the coast with 30s intervals up the only but big climb of the day. |
